The Tip Jar: Shop Safely Online this Christmas Season
Thanks to Resourceful Mommy, I was able to attend an online press conference with Beth from AVG and Scott from shop.org¬†preparing us for some of the things going on on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. For those who don’t know, Black Friday is the huge store shopping day the day after Thanksgiving. The thing that’s new to me is Cyber Monday, which is the Monday after Thanksgiving. Stores and websites want your business and are having tons of sales to help entice you to buy from them!
With that in mind, AVG and Shop.org offered 5 tips to keeping your online shopping safe. I’ve summarized them, but you can read all the information at http://www.shop.org/shopsafely
- Look for the “https:” when checking out.¬†¬†S=security
- Stay current with your security software
AVG has a good FREE anti-virus protection system. Click HERE to go to the AVG site’s free download. - Think before you link
Make sure to have a good firewall and real-time scanner in place that can scan any links before you click on them. - Keep your private information private
Use a second email account only for shopping and a different password than any others. You can get free email addresses at Google, Hotmail, etc. for this purpose. - Mix up your passwords
Use passwords that mean something to only you “dogrollsonground” and have different passwords for each separate site. Use a small notebook that you can keep by your computer to remember all the passwords.
